My Build, My Bills
“Exploring the superficial nature of social currency in the gay men’s community, “My Build, My Bills” depicts two anonymous hands looping in the gesture of counting bills; but in the place of monetary imagery are a variety of stock-thot photos instead. Drawing from the artist’s lived experience as a gay Asian man, the men in the photos are similarly depicted as Asian, addressing the specific experiences of sexual discounting that gay Asian men face daily. Through looping animation, Glynn seeks to illustrate the pressure experienced by gay asian communities within the larger scope of the gay men’s community wherein body dysmorphia, fetishiziation and racism are often normalized.” via https://www.xpace.info/exhibition-event/dylan-glynn-my-build-my-bills/
